ReBoot Modesto Computer Refurbishing began in 2010 by Terry Scott, shortly after retiring as the Technology Coordinator for Riverbank Unified School District.   (The name was changed to “2nd Chance Modesto” in 2013 after we were notified the “Reboot” name was in violation of a trademark.)

Working with Riverbank High and Cardozo Middle School teachers, Terry began refurbishing surplus computers and giving them to students at no charge.  Students are only expected to “pay it forward”, giving their time to a community service organization of their choice.

From 2010 to 2013, almost 400 students received computers during this program.

In early 2012 2nd Chance began to distribute computers through Jesus Our Savior Anglican Church in Modesto.  Becoming a ministry of this church, ReBootModesto also is able to now offer the tax benefits of a 501(c) nonprofit to all donors.

Currently (as of September 2018) 2nd Chance has distributed over 6000 computers to Modesto area students.
